RedSky Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Terry Thirion and Eleanor Wirth

RedSky Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present an exhibition including mixed media works by painter Terry Thirion and antique seed-beading jewelry by Eleanor Wirth, on view from Nov. 9 through Dec. 5, 2007.

Terry Thirion

Terry Thirion states, "I attempt to find balance through colorful shapes and lines that leap off the canvas and intertwine with each other in a playful way. I want to intrigue the viewers and invite them to discover the little surprises that I imbed in each of these works. I love to make art. Each piece presents its own challenges. Sometimes it is a mood that I want to convey that dares me to explore other mediums or techniques, sometimes it is the unwillingness to stick to 'the norm'. Every time I work it's an adventure that ultimately results in the thought, 'wouldn't live without it'. There is an additional reward in seeing the completed works assembled and exhibited in the innovative way that Kellie Scott of RedSky Gallery achieves this. It makes it more attractive and exhilarating for me and I believe the viewers as well."

Eleanor Wirth

Eleanor Wirth's work goes far beyond what most people think of when they hear "beaded jewelry". She weaves elaborate tapestries of glass, creating translucent forms to adorn the body. None of her pieces are merely beautiful beads strung à la Barbara Bush pearls. She creates truly unique forms by drawing from her extensive knowledge of textile design.

Wirth began her current body of personal adornment in 1999, after having collected glass beads for almost 10 years, but using them rarely in her sculptural tufted tapestries. Her holdings to date boasts over 700 different colors and qualities from Japan, the Czech Republic, Italy and France, and continues to obsessively grow. Wirth's work reflects her textile background as glass beads become exaggerated threads in a dance of texture and light.

Wirth graduated in 1978 from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science with a Bachelor of Science in Textile Design. Her professional experiences in textiles includes designing woven velvets and silver knits, custom wool area rugs produced in Georgia, Mexico, and Israel, and coloring and designing vertical application (ie: panel cloths) and upholstery fabrics for the contract market, mainly in the United States. She currently lives and works in Fort Mill, SC.
