Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Huihan Liu and Weizhen Liang

Celebrating the ninth Charleston Fine Art Annual Weekend, The Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, present, A Couple Impressionists Liu and Liang, an exhibition of new paintings by husband and wife, Huihan Liu and Weizhen Liang. The exhibit will be on view from Nov. 2 - 30, 2007. This exhibition of new paintings of imagery from their travels will bring satisfaction to the wanderlust of many a collector.

Impressionist painter, Huihan Liu, was born in Guangzhou, China in 1952. He came to the United States twenty years ago and lives near San Francisco with his wife and son. While he displayed an early interest in and talent for painting, his pursuit of his artistry was delayed until his early twenties. Surviving the Cultural Revolution created by Mao, Liu eventually was accepted into the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art. He earned undergraduate and master's degrees in fine art and then taught a decade. Liu earned another MFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. A book of his artwork was published in July 2005 by the Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House in China.

Liu's wide range of subject matter includes figures, "objects" and landscapes in a soft Impressionistic style with a soft warming palette. His works transport the viewer to locations that hint of the "Old World" yet are refreshingly rooted in the here and now. Liu gives back by teaching the next generation of artists at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and the Fechin Art Workshops in New Mexico. He is a member of several art organizations such as the Oil Painters of America and the California Art Club. Liu's works have appeared in Southwest Art, Art of the West and American Artist.

Artist Weizhen Liang is also Chinese. She received her BA degree in Chinese literature from Ji Nan University of Guang Zhou in China. Studying from an early age with her accomplished artistic aunt who was a professor at the Guang Zhou Academy of Fine Arts provided Liang with the basis for her life in art.

Liang is a member of the Oil Painters of America and was a guest artist at the 2003 Northwest Rendezvous Exhibition in Montana. Her soft color palette and ephemeral brush strokes combine to create paintings of luscious beauty and peace while providing insight into the momentary still of the subject matter.

These two accomplished artists travel widely and bring the life and colors of exotic lands to us. Last year was Tibet for the artists and this year they spent time in France. Painting and holding a workshop in the area of Toulouse this talented couple kindly shares the joy of their visions with us through their work.
