Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, Offers New Exhibits
Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, is presenting several new exhibits, all on view from Nov. 10 through Jan. 20, 2008.
In Sisterhood, Recollections & Visual Prayers (in the Main Gallery) Valarie Jean Bailey pays tribute to her memories with Folk Quilts that include homage to her sisters, her Aunt Mae and the gardens and scenery of her eclectic childhood.
Take a look at some of the distinct elements in Bailey's remarkable quilts and you can appreciate the artist's statement, "When I make Folk Quilts I think in colors and smells - The colors in church windows and the smell of the woods in spring waft in and out and become lines and shapes." Always looking for a way to infuse her work with emotions of the past, this Lillington, NC, native says that, "For me, Folk Quilts bring recollections to life."
In Gallery B, the exhibit, As I See It, features the new oil and pastel work of Greensboro, NC, artist Addren Doss. An accomplished artist whose work is found in both private and corporate collections, Doss' career spans from her early years spent doing freelance graphic design to her signature "plein air" painting on location in the American west, the coast and North Carolina's Piedmont.
Mixed media works by Hillsborough, NC, artist Anne Gregory-Bepler grace the Hallway Gallery. Gregory-Bepler's training at UNC as a sculptor is revealed in structural collages mixed with fluid, decorative drawings.
The Kaleidoscope Youth Gallery presents Appalachian Quilt Adventures, a dynamic assemblage of Appalachian quilt patterns by local elementary students. The picturesque works include geometric designs with colorful names such as Broken Dishes, Shoofly and Buzzard's Roost. This interdisciplinary project reflects cultural history and incorporates technological changes and traditional storytelling.
