Artist on Fire, Temporary Gallery in
Mt. Pleasant, SC, Features Works by Alex Radin
Artist on Fire, a temporary gallery located in the Shops of Mt. Pleasant in Mt. Pleasant, SC, will present the exhibit, Through the Eyes of A Child, featuring works by Alex Radin alongside the drawings of his four year old daughter that inspired the show. The exhibit will be on view Nov. 14 and 15, 2008.
Radin moved to the Charleston, SC, area in 2001, from Columbus, OH, and continued his work painting murals, portraits, and special commissions as well as doing illustrations for books and magazines. After participating in a co-op gallery in downtown Charleston, Radin left seeking new avenues for showing his contemporary work that is based in abstract realism. The idea for the exhibition came to him one day as he watched his daughter whip out ten whimsical and fascinating drawings in about a hour.
This exhibition consists of 100 paintings each measuring 100 square inches. Each original oil painting is also being offered for only $100, as Radin wants to inspire and encourage new collectors.
The works that comprise this show are explorations in freedom and a tapping back into the raw expression of a child. "Children are the most uninhibited artists and are full of such fascination with the world around them," says Radin. "Watching my daughter create inspired me to break the boundaries of my own creative process." The artist began work on these pieces only ten weeks before the show opens, which was a purposeful attempt to mirror the prolific production of a child.
Radin grew up in NY on Long Island and graduated with a BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, OH. His work has shown in both solo and group exhibitions in Ohio, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois, and Texas at venues ranging from the Charlotte Institute of Art to galleries and alternative spaces, as well as at the Columbia Museum of Art. He has traveled nationally encouraging and training artists, and he has guest lectured at schools such as the Charlotte Institute of Art as well as taught several art courses locally. His work has been published in many forms of media including books, editorial publications, and on the cover of cd's.
