Latin American Photographer's Works at The Light Factory in Charlotte, NC
The Light Factory in Charlotte, NC, presents
Personal Permanent Records: Contemporary Latin American Photography,
curated by Malin Barth, Director of Throckmorton Fine Art in New
York. The exhibit in on view Jan. 5 - Feb. 18.
This exhibition presents a wonderfully diverse grouping of contemporary
portraiture photography from Latin America and continues The Light
Factory's annual showcasing of international art. Representing
a cross generational mix of emerging and mid-career artists the
exhibition showcases 16 photographers who depict how portraiture
validates a series of differentiated identities: personal, sexual,
collective, national, and historical. Portraiture inundates our
everyday lives from treasured family albums, media blitzes of
superstar celebrities and political figures, to a plethora of
officially issued identification cards that most of us carry with
us at all times. Each of the artists in the exhibition uses some
aspect of the photographic medium to creatively explore personal
issues of identity and memory.
The artists included in the exhibit are Alexander Apóstol, Aziz + Cucher, Sara Maneiro, Marcela Mouján, Luciana Napchan, Juan Leal Ruiz, Ana Tiscornia, Janaina Tschäpe, Claudia Aranovich, Marcelo Brodsky, Eduardo Medici, Oscar Muñoz, Rosângela Rennó, Antonio Saggese, Milagros De La Torre and Eugenia Vargas.
