Artists Team Up To Open New Gallery/Studio in Columbia, SC
Jessica Barnes Smith, Robin Hays and Joey Hancock
have teamed up to create a unique art experience in the Forest
Acres area of Columbia, SC. Jessica Barnes Smith has opened The
Hive Studio and Gallery in conjunction with Robin Hays and Joey
Hancock's Bloomin' Artist.
The Bloomin' Artist offers art classes to students of all ages.
It has been operating in the 3310 Harrison Rd. location in Forest
Acres for almost a year. Smith recently began to share the studio
space. The Building is an old dentist office, which is perfect
for the studio. The front room of the building was already starting
to take on the form of a gallery when Smith moved in. She has
slowly started to turn the space into something more.
Smith said, "I looked at the space and could see all this
potential. I imagined a friendly place for emerging artists to
show their work. This area has so many talented people. My mother,
Elizabeth M. Barnes, is also an artist and she helped me turn
this into a reality."
The gallery is currently featuring an exhibition of drawing, sculpture,
painting, hand-built & thrown ceramics, and hand-blown glass
by several artists including: Elizabeth M. Barnes, Joey Hancock,
Robin Hays, Janice Sczesny, Jessica Barnes Smith, and Sonia Wilkins.
This show will run through the month of December.
The Hive Studio and Gallery is in a brick duplex
building conveniently located across from Zesto just off Forest
Drive near Richland Fashion Mall. The gallery is open Tues.-Fri.
11am-6pm or by appointment.
