Artspace in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Peter Paul Connolly
Artspace in Raleigh, NC, will present an exhibition entitled, Nomad, featuring works by Peter Paul Connolly. The exhibit in Gallery 2 will be on view from Dec. 5 through Jan. 24, 2004.
For Peter Paul Connolly, "moving" should be placed just after "death" on the list of the most stressful aspects of life. Nomad, an exhibition of mixed media paintings explores Connolly's nomadic upbringing and how it has effected his interactions and relationships. Connolly has been ingrained with a "don't look back" attitude, which has shaped his approach to life. Through his work, Connolly attempts to balance his personal experiences as he searches for a sense of home.
Connolly was born in England in 1964. He emigrated to the US in 1968 with his family, and lived in several houses and apartments in Indiana, California and Virginia before moving to Chapel Hill, NC. Connolly, a self-taught artist, had his paintings featured at the Museum of American Folk Art in NYC in 1997. He has shown throughout the triangle, including a recent solo exhibition at the Durham Arts Guild. Connolly illustrated two internationally published tarot decks and has just completed a CD cover and booklet for Dirk Shumaker of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. He drives a 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger, loves his wife, plays guitar and sings in The Imperial Pints.
