Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, NC, Presents Exhibition at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham, NC, Featuring Works by Georges Le Chevallier
The Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, NC, presents an exhibition of works by Georges Le Chevallier at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham, NC. The exhibit will be on view through Jan. 12, 2004.
Inspired by the complex character and verve of twenty-first century technology, Le Chevalliers' paintings attempt to examine the rapid and segmented sense in which society perceives itself in a culture of automated domination. By integrating a distant collection of images, textures, designs and colors, his artistic compositions have consistently reflected a concern with western culture's seemingly mutated attention span. As an artist, his work strives to evoke a semi-autobiographical psychological landscape that embraces both the nostalgia of travel and journal keeping, with the cynicism of the mass media's role in today's society. The work appears as a well worn billboard, with layers of information and imagery acting as traces of the artistís presence within a complex narrative of culture, place, and a sense of self.
Georges Le Chevallier had his first major solo exhibition fifteen years ago. Since then his paintings, photographic works, and public art installations have been exhibited extensively in distinguished galleries and museums throughout the United States, as well as in Japan, Spain, Puerto Rico, Chile, and Hungary. Being an artist who is now entering the mature phase of his career, Le Chevallier has also received many illustrious honors and recognitions during his search for artistic excellence. Apart from exhibiting his art, Le Chevallier has over 10 years of bi-lingual teaching experience at different museum educational departments and at the elementary, high school, and university levels. Because of his multi-ethnic background and countless travel experiences he is fluent in the French, Spanish, Italian, and English languages.
Until the Contemporary Art Museum's new facility opens in the heart of downtown Raleigh, all of the Triangle area has become the Museumís gallery. Through partnerships with venues such as Manbites Dog Theater, CAM is able to continue supporting new and innovative works by regional artists. The Contemporary Art Museum is a non-profit organization supported by its members, individual contributors, corporate and foundation support, the City of Raleigh based on recommendations of the Raleigh Arts Commission, the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, with funds from the United Arts campaign and the Grassroots Arts Program of the North Carolina Arts Council, and the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Contemporary Art Museum is an educational organization, linking visual literacy to contemporary life.
