Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by William Halsey
The Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, William Halsey (1915-1999): Modernist, Abstract Expressionist & Charlestonian, featuring a collection of works from 1966-1998. The exhibit opens on Dec. 5 and continues through Dec. 31, 2003.
Works by the late William Halsey, including 12 works that have never been seen before by the public eye, will be featured in this exhibition. As one of the most distinguished participants of American Modernism from Charleston, and even the Southeast, Halsey's work crosses many stylistic movements - the most pronounced being Abstract Expressionism. No other artist from Charleston attempted to participate in the "avant-garde" challenges and developments of Modernism during the twentieth century as did Halsey. His work is indicative of his life experiences, having relationships with New York galleries and museums as well as an interest in Mexico's landscapes and ruins, while continuously maintaining a devotion to his hometown of Charleston. This is a rare opportunity for the public to see a conglomeration of works by Halsey from different points in his life.
