Gallery 2 in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Lauren Graham Cunningham and More
The edgy and satirical
portraits of Lauren Graham Cunningham will be at Gallery 2 in
Columbia, SC, through Dec. 24, 2003.
Cunningham has been called an artist with attitude. The subjects
of her color-saturated paintings are frozen in social scenes -
they smoke, drink and they leer from the canvas challenging viewers
to wonder what they will do next. Some are caught in mid-conversation.
All are seductive slices of life.
A self-taught, figurative artist, Cunningham feels she is void of outside influence and not bound by conventional approaches to painting. "I paint reality," Cunningham says. "My work is ironic, humorous, earnest, sad and above all, I hope it is filled with feeling. My art is about life." Originally from Columbia, SC, Cunningham now resides in Mount Dora, FL. She is represented by various galleries in the state and her work has been popular at the Florida Arts Festival.
Also showing upstairs in the Emerging Artist Gallery is glass art by Michael Bruner, pen and ink drawings by Ligel Lambert, abstract painting and unique jewelry by Suzannah McEntire, functional ceramics by Clare Scurry and contemporary sculpture and paintings by Tracy Weldon.
