Touchstone Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Offers New Works for the Holidays and Annual UNICEF Holiday Items

Touchstone Gallery in historic downtown Hendersonville, NC is pleased to announce the arrival of new fine arts and American craft to brighten homes for the upcoming holiday season. The Gallery is also offering the UNICEF 2003 Holiday Collection including Holiday cards and yearly calendars.

Spirit of Flight a metallic paper collage by Maxine Linney of Hendersonville would be a most appropriate addition to a living room for the holidays. This 36x48 art work joins other abstract mixed media paintings currently on view by this widely collected artist.

Carol Bomer, an internationally recognized liturgical artist based in Asheville, NC, has recently delivered thirteen new paintings to the gallery. Included in this new collection is a dramatic mixed media work entitled Dawn that was created at an international artists workshop held last Spring in Kiev, Russia. It recently won an award at the National SEEVA Conference in Boston, MA.

Functional sculpture. That's what Fred Mead of Forest City, NC, calls his "Tornado" stacked plate glass table now on view at Touchstone. Also recently arrived from Kelvin Schartz of Celestial Ironworks (Kansas) are three recycled steel tables... Tree of Life, Celtic Knot, and Celestial... while the warmth and hand-rubbed finish on highly figured wood highlights the side tables of Hendersonville's Karl Grammer.

Also ideal for gift-giving are wood turnings by Robert Collier of Hendersonville and Cullowhee's Bill Hyatt.

The gallery has also received nine new acrylic on canvas paintings by Asheville, NC, artists Richard Olson. Once again, Olson invites us to explore imaginary visual journals that offer glimpes of almost familiar landscapes as well as mystical interpretations of common objects such as teapot and cups.

For over fifty years, UNICEF has worked to meet the basic needs of children for health, education, safe water, and sanitation. Today, at least 80% of children in many developing countries are immunized against six deadly but common childhood diseases: poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, tetanus, diphtheria, measles, and whooping cough. The overall improvement in the health of children means that each year 2.5 million fewer children die and at least three quarters of a million fewer children are blinded, crippled, or mentally retarded. As children's basic needs are met, more attention can be given to improving their quality of life.

Proceeds from the sale of UNICEF cards, calendars, and gifts will enable UNICEF to continue to assist worldwide programs benefitting children.
