Caldwell
Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, Presents National Womens Art Exhibition
The Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, is thrilled to host the
National Association of Women Artists traveling exhibition
at the Caldwell Country Chamber of Commerce, Java Joe's, and The
Caldwell Memorial Hospital galleries during the month of December.
The exhibition will open Dec. 3 -29, 2004.
The mediums included in this exhibit are: oil, watercolor, or
acrylics on canvas or paper; collages, print making, computer
design, photography, sculpture, and three dimensional assemblages.
This juried exhibit features more than one hundred pieces, created
by ninety plus artists.
The exhibit is coordinated by the Western Arts Agencies of North
Carolina in cooperation with the National Association of Women
Artists. The exhibit was curated by Nancy Gaucher-Thomas on behalf
of the artists of the Association.
The exhibit has been traveling throughout Western North Carolina
for seven months. The remaining venue for the exhibit will be
at the Ashe County Arts Council in West Jefferson (during the
month of Jan., 2005). All of the participating sites were members
of the Western Arts Agencies of North Carolina, which strives
to provide programs and services to benefit the people within
the communities of Western North Carolina. Through the Mountain
Arts Program in-school residencies are provided within the region,
through block booking efforts programs are presented with the
communities and schools of the region, and through the traveling
exhibits program exhibitions are made available to galleries within
the region.
The National Association of Women Artists, founded in 1889, is
the oldest professional women's art association in the country.
NAWA is a member supported not-for-profit organization. The mission
of the organization is to promote women artists with the goal
of attaining full recognition of the scope of their achievements.
The Association provides a forum for women artists to share ideas
and to exhibit their work. Through its exhibitions, programs,
and archive NAWA fosters awareness of the monumental contributions
of women to the history of American art.
Based in New York City, the National Association of Women Artists
is a source of culture and education through its traveling exhibitions,
its permanent museum collection, its historical archive, and the
educational programs available to its members and its public.
The organization's history features noted women artists whose
lives and art making are testimonials to the quality and durability
of 115 years of women's art in America. Presently the group has
over 850 members, many of whom are represented in museums as well
as private and public collections. The artists in this exhibition
represent women from a cross-section of communities across the
United States.
Artists included in this exhibition hail from across the country.
The work is both imaginative and vibrant. The public will be challenged
by some of the pieces which evoke a number of responses to the
high quality work which has been included in this particular exhibition.
More than 800 artists submitted slides for inclusion in this exhibition,
but about one hundred and thirty were selected for inclusion in
the exhibit.
The Caldwell Arts Council is pleased that our galleries were a
chosen site for this national traveling exhibition of quality
work. These galleries are open to the public and there is no admission
charge for exhibitions.
