Hidell Brooks Gallery
in Charlotte, NC, is presenting a group exhibition entitled, Still
Lifes & Street Scenes, which will be on view through Dec.
23, 2004. Six gallery artists will be participating in this specially
curated exhibition. The exhibit includes new paintings by Carol
Anthony, Ben Aronson, Richard Crozier, Charles Gatewood, Katy
Schneider and Thomas Tietjen.
The exhibition shows how each artist approaches the same genre
in their own distinct way. The still life subject matter ranges
from small intimate scenes by Katy Schneider to paint cans brilliantly
illuminated by Thomas Tietjen. The street scene paintings vary
from urban Charlotte scenes painted on site by University of Virginia
professor Richard Crozier to the luminous streets of Manhattan
by Ben Aronson. Carol Anthony approached this subject with her
unique view of life depicting beach paths as her "street
scenes" and dog bones as still life objects. Charles Gatewood
paints the familiar, trains and vacant buildings lit by a single
street light around his small town in Alabama. The exhibition
brings together a wide variety of styles.
