Joie Lassiter
Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Marc Lambrechts
Marc
Lambrechts' exhibit, a walk through mini mini space, will
be at Joie Lassiter Gallery in Charlotte, NC, through Jan. 14,
2005.
Fascinated by astronomy and finding our place within the universe,
New York-based Belgian artist Lambrechts' oil and plaster works,
with their richly textured surfaces appear like astronomical or
urban scapes or perhaps even geological strata.
Lambrechts studied first as a printmaker at The Higher St. Lucas
Institute in Brussels and then obtained his MFA from The Pratt
Institute in New York. He became fascinated by creating a more
dimensional presence, deeply layering plaster, metal and pigment
onto panel. The artist then scrapes and gouges, revealing and
concealing colors and materials within the painting. From a distance
the surfaces appear smooth and drawn, as one approaches, it becomes
apparent that each line and color is etched or buried within the
piece, imbuing the work with the element of time.
Looking from the artists' monoprints to his paintings one can
see that Lambrechts explores his ideas cohesively in both mediums,
fusing expressionist gesture and post-minimalist geometric abstraction.
