NC Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh, NC, Offers Works by Grace Li Wang & Alexa Kleinbard

Impressions of the soul and other-worldly gardens soon will grace the walls of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' Nature Art Gallery - captured in nature-inspired paintings by Grace Li Wang and Alexa Kleinbard. The exhibit entitled, Vistas and Roots, runs from Dec. 3 through Jan. 30, 2005.

Wang, a native of Taipei, Taiwan, graduated from the North Carolina State University's School of Design in 1974 with a degree in environmental design. She has received numerous international art and design awards, including the Designers Choice Award from International Design Publications, and the Distinguished Art and Design Graphics Award from the International Society for Technical Communications.

According to Wang, she strives to capture impressions of the soul in her paintings. "I want to create imageries that become the active force in expressing colors and forms as in nature, with the emotional qualities that are strong and can go beyond the realm of words," she said. After many years as an art director for Triangle area corporations, Wang now runs her own contemporary art gallery in Raleigh.

Alexa Kleinbard, a resident of Tallahassee, FL, has received numerous awards for her rich, colorful paintings, including the Whitaker Art Award and two National Endowments for the Arts Endowment Grants. Many of her paintings have been inspired by her concern over critical environmental issues, and are often charged with powerful images of man's encroachment on native peoples, plants and animals.

Kleinbard's father's gardens also serve as inspiration. "My father's hobby was gardening, and I used to follow him as he worked," she said. "He had beautiful gardens."

The Nature Art Gallery, inside the Museum Store, hosts new exhibitions predominantly by Southern artists six times a year. All exhibited art is for sale.
