Artists'
Guild of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Carole
Knudson Tinsley
The Artists' Guild of Spartanburg will present an exhibit of works
by Carole Knudson Tinsley in the Spartanburg Arts Center Guild
Gallery in Spartanburg, SC. The exhibit will be on view from Dec.
30 through Feb. 1, 2005.
Tinsley paints in water-media, often integrating collage into
her impressionistic and abstract works. She has been painting
a series involving ancient cultures, primarily those ancestors
and descendants of American Indians, in order to provide a glimpse
into that culture. Her textural compositions express rhythm and
movement, while, she said, "leaving some mystery for the
viewers to use their imagination" when interpreting her work.
"The shapes and forms used in my paintings are abstract,
nonobjective, and sometimes impressionistic. I attempt to interpret
the contrasting forms in rhythm and movement while also expressing
textural qualities. My aim is for a strong, dynamic design,"
Tinsley said. "If my paintings appear as a mere fragment
of an ancient, but enduring mystery, my wish is that the viewer
will feel that spirit."
The artist, whose gallery is located in Greenville, has works
in private and corporate collections throughout the United States
and in other countries.
