South Carolina
State Museum in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Lowcountry Artists
Artworks by nine Lowcountry artists is being showcased in the
exhibit, TRIENNIAL 2004, on view at the South Carolina
State Museum in Columbia, SC, through Feb. 27, 2005.
Charleston, SC, artists Loren G. Schwerd, Colin Quashie, Bob Snead,
Dorothy Netherland, Yvette Dede, Herb Parker, Michelle Van Parys,
Jocelyn Chateauvert, and Summerville, SC, artist Frank McCauley
were chosen by a panel of three jurors to show a variety of art
in the exhibition.
Loren G. Schwerd's mixed media sculptures have included outdoor
figures as well as art worn for dance performance. Schwerd has
studied abroad in Cortona, Italy and has recently done a public
art project for the Sumter Next Wave Art Festival.
Colin Quashie will make his third appearance in TRIENNIAL 2004
after being showcased in the 1992 and 1995 shows. Once a writer
for the sketch-comedy show Mad-TV and Emmy award winner
for the PBS documentary, Where Do We Go From Here, Quashie
continues to both write screenplays and paint.
Founder of the Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, Bob
Snead has been featured in many group exhibits and is a featured
artist in the Art-O-Mat, a vending machine that dispenses art.
Snead is currently a Professor of Printmaking at his alma mater,
the College of Charleston.
Dorothy Netherland works from her studio at the Redux Contemporary
Art Center where she continues work on her glass paintings. These
paintings recently have been exhibited at the City Gallery at
Waterfront Park for the Contemporary Charleston 2004 show.
Yvette Dede is currently an adjunct professor at the College of
Charleston. An area art instructor since 1997, her work has been
shown across the nation and has also been shown in the Klenova
Museum in Klenova, Czech Republic.
Herb Parker is currently an associate professor of art at the
College of Charleston and studied abroad in Cortona, Italy. Parker
has been shown in past State Museum exhibits and he makes his
return to TRIENNIAL after being exhibited in 1998.
Michelle Van Pary's photographic works have been exhibited as
far away as Royan, France and will be show in her second TRIENNIAL.
She is currently an associate professor at the College of Charleston.
Jocelyn Chateauvert has won many awards including the Award of
Excellence at the Washington Craft Expo in Washington, DC. She
performed her artist-in-residence in London at Middlesex Polytechnic
and her metalwork has been shown in exhibits across the US and
in New Museums of Scotland in Edinburgh.
Frank McCauley's mixed media paintings have been exhibited in
many states and have been featured abroad in London. His work
can be seen in the collection of the Museum of York County.
TRIENNIAL 2004 is a collaborative project with the South
Carolina Arts Commission.
