Spencer
Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Deborah Palmer
Spencer Art Gallery at 55 Broad Street in Charleston, SC, is pleased
to present the exhibit, Vanishing America, an exhibit of
new paintings by Deborah Palmer featuring landscapes documenting
vintage barns and out buildings on farms and plantations along
the east coast.
"I needed to capture these images before they crumbled to
dust," Palmer says of her work this past year. "So man
of these wonderful old structures are being torn down or converted
to other uses. They need to be preserved for future generations."
This special exhibition marks Palmer's first anniversary as a
regular exhibitor at the Spencer Art Gallery. Since returning
to her painting in 2000 after 30 years in the commercial art world,
she has become an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild,
has won awards in the Signature Show and has had several
pieces commissioned from patrons both in Charleston and the New
York area. Palmer is a member of the Charleston Outdoor Painters
Association (COPA) and often paints in "plein air".
Her work has also been exhibited at Skidmore's Galleries, at Guild
Hall in Easthampton, NY, the Art Center in Pelham, NY, the Sandpiper
Gallery on Sullivan's Island, SC, and at the North Charleston
City Gallery.
A "snow bird", Palmer splits the year between Charleston
and Sag Harbor, NY, drawing her inspiration from the similar light
and low horizons of both locations. Her paintings are infused
with dappled light and shadow, color and the atmosphere of the
moment.
