The ArtHouse in Charlotte, NC, Features Exhibit of Winthrop University Photo Students
Seven photography students from Winthrop University
in Rock Hill, SC, will open their show, EXIT, on Dec. 2,
2005, at The ArtHouse gallery in Charlotte, NC. The show will
continue through Jan. 3, 2006.
EXIT is a thesis exhibition showcasing the photographic
work of senior students Ruchelle Bagnal, Shawna Foley, Jenna Gustason,
Deanna Hill, Daniel Hudson, Lauren Peebles, and Katherine Santora.
Ruchelle Bagnal is documenting her personal journey through the
process of nationalization to become a Filipino-American. Using
the cyanotype process, she will be collaging life-sized images
onto large hanging cloth panels.
Shawna Foley's work, greatly influenced by her interest in art
history, is an exploration of religious iconography, using experimental
lighting techniques.
Jenna Gustason will bring attention to overlooked, everyday objects
through their extreme magnification and abstraction in large monochromatic
images.
Deanna Hill is presenting a series of black and white self-portraits
using a primitive device of photography, the pin-hole camera.
Dan Hudson is exploring the inner feelings
and emotions of individuals through portraiture of those individuals
against a stark white background.
Lauren Peebles is using the cyanotype process to create portraits
and photograms on cloth. These patchwork images will then be
collaged and sewn onto large stretched canvases.
Katherine Santora is hand binding an oversized, antique photo
album, which will document elements of a family's daily life in
the mid-1800s.
These seven exhibitors are all currently pursuing undergraduate degrees in Fine Art with a concentration in Commercial or Fine Art Photography. They are eager to exhibit such a unique and diverse mixture of thematic elements and photographic techniques.
