Conn Gallery in Landrum, SC, Offers Exhibit for Last Day of 2005
The last day of the year will bring a vibrant
new show, New Year's Eve Bash, to Conn Gallery in Landrum,
SC. The exhibition opens on Dec. 31, 2005, and will feature a
cast of local and regional painters and sculptors including: Richard
Conn, Page Davis, Fred and Kato Guggenheim, Dale McEntire, David
Isaac Schultz, Katie Walker, and Martin Webster. The exhibit will
remain on view until Jan. 27, 2006.
Richard Conn, known throughout the region for his paintings of
the Southeast, will be showing his metal sculpture. Despite the
fact that Conn only recently began working in this medium, his
love of the process is evident in the striking shapes and bold
designs he achieves. His new work has already won an award in
a recent show sponsored by the Spartanburg County Museum of Art.
Tryon, NC, artist Page Davis will be showing her stream of consciousness paintings on canvas, which she describes as "layered and diary-like". Using a variety of media, Davis' work is all about process.
Fred and Kato Guggenheim are husband and wife collaborators from Asheville, NC. Kato states her appreciation for "how light penetrates and transforms itself in glass - and steel and concrete bring stability and density of form." Fred is fulfilled by expressing his thoughts and feelings into three dimensional forms and solving the technical problems inherent in reconfiguring essentially hard materials. Their selection of media reflects their city surroundings.
Dale
McEntire
Well known Saluda, NC, artist Dale McEntire will be exhibiting his graceful and balanced stone sculpture. McEntire finds his inspiration in "the beauty of geometry and its flow into all creation". Visitors to Conn Gallery know McEntire for his paintings which reveal his intimate connection with the natural world.
David Isaac Schultz, who will be one of the new permanent artists at the Chattanooga Conn Gallery, has family in Charlotte, NC, but currently lives in Tokyo. He will be showing his mixed media paintings on paper which reflect the influence of media and environment on our lives.
Katie Walker of Greenville, SC, combines "personal imagery and mark making" that documents her responses to both her materials and the world. Walker primarily paints with acrylic on canvas and paper, but also works in enamel and the monoprint technique.
Martin Webster of Burnsville, NC, is a sculptor "inspired by the natural world, using materials and processes that range from our agricultural past to our industrial present". His work honors the determination and cooperation of present day pioneers in their preservation of our earth's resources.
