Florence Museum in Florence, SC, Features Works by Patz Fowle and Annual Miniatures Exhibition

The Florence Museum in Florence, SC, is presenting several exhibitions including: Visual Voices...Multimedia Narratives by Patz Fowle, on view through Dec. 30, 2005, and the 17th Annual Miniature Art Competition, on view through Dec. 18, 2005.

Patz Fowle

Patz Fowle of Hartsville, SC, is a passionate artist with a sense of humor. Recognized throughout the state, nationally and internationally for her distinctive style, she has won awards and has been featured in national publications. Fowle teaches the "Patz Process," an innovative method of working with clay, in South Carolina schools. The process is published in the Davis Publication art text book, Beginning Sculpture. Fowle has been featured on an SCETV series on PBS about her technique, in ceramic monthly publications and books on ceramics and sculpture. Her pieces are in public and private collections around the country.

Treelee MacAnn, Instructor of Art at Coastal Carolina was the judge for awards for the 17th Annual Miniature Art Competition. Artists from all over South Carolina submitted works to be considered for the exhibit. From watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels and constructions of all kinds, the miniature images are no larger than 4" x 4". They are tiny gems to be enjoyed as windows into a special world that draws the viewer in. A connection with the artist seems to easily develop in the diminutive dimension. Each one tells a bit about the creator, delivering a special message about the artist.

Bill Gramley

First Place went to Bill Gramley of Clemmons, NC, for his pastel, November Twilight; Second Place went to David Yaghjian of Columbia, SC, for his oil on panel, Roach; and Third Place went to Jack Dowis of Florence for his watercolor, Sylvan Winter.

Honorable Mentions include Errol R. Alger of Winnsboro, SC, for his graphite, Old Pear; Miller Getty of Sumter, SC, for her digital collage, The Birth of Venus; Kathleen Pompe of Florence for her Polariod emulsion life, Uncertainty, Mystery and Doubt; and the Ann Finch Watercolor Honorable Mention went to Barbara Moore of Florence for Where Earth and Sky Meet.
