The Arts Council of Henderson County in Hendersonville, NC, Features a Quilt Exhibition
The Arts Council of Henderson County in Hendersonville, NC, is presenting the exhibit, The Museum of the American Quilter's Society: Monkey Wrench, that will be on display at The Gallery through Dec. 17, 2005. There will be 18 quilts made by quilters in 11 different US states and Wales. Challenged to create innovative quilts based on the traditional "Monkey Wrench" pattern, they provide a wonderful look at the skills, techniques, and creativity of today's quilt makers.
Monkey Wrench, which originated about 1858, has two classic versions - "Snail's Trail" and "Churn Dash". Some of the quilts highlight one version; some highlight both. Quilters were free to stretch, curve, or visually bend the Monkey Wrench, but it still had to remain recognizable to the judges. Entries were judged on design, use of materials, interpretation of the theme, and technical excellence by three judges. Contestants came from throughout the United States and around the world. Thus the exhibition offers 18 very contemporary responses to the honored history and traditions of quilting in America.
In addition The Professional Fiber Artists
Revisiting Tradition will be displaying more of their work
in the gallery's reception area during the exhibit.
The exhibit is sponsored by The Creative Needle Studio, owned
by Suretha K. Norris.
