Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Robert Stuart
Hodges Taylor Gallery is pleased to announce
a solo exhibition, Robert Stuart Paintings: The Essence of
Light, featuring paintings by Robert Stuart, on view through
Dec. 22, 2005.
Stuart, known for his light-filled landscape and still-life paintings,
has in the last few years been exploring a more abstract style.
Softened geometry and textured surfaces evoke an atmosphere of
radiating light and ordered calm. These abstract, linear works
exemplify both large-scale paintings of oil and wax on canvas
as well as intimate, small paintings on paper. Influenced by the
light pouring through the slits of the floorboards in an old barn,
Stuart began his linear paintings that explore space, color and
light. For the artist, these light-filled crevices hold the essence
of the rural landscapes he had so enjoyed.
A painter from Virginia, Stuart received an MFA from James Madison
University and a BFA from Boston University. His work has been
exhibited in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, New Orleans Museum
of Art, Mint Museum of Art, J.B. Speed Art Museum and the Chrysler
Museum. Stuart has taught at the University of Virginia and James
Madison University. In 2004 he received an Academy Award in Art
from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York, NY.
Stuart has been exhibiting with Hodges Taylor Gallery for over
twenty years.
In business since 1981, Hodges Taylor Gallery represents contemporary
artists of the southeast, including paintings, prints, photographs
and sculpture. The gallery offers a public venue in uptown Charlotte
for viewing artwork and serves as art consultants for collectors
and businesses.
