December Issue 2005
Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, Features Group Exhibit of Small Works
Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, caps off 2005 with an exhibition entitled, Small Works, on view from Dec. 2 -31, 2005. The exhibit will feature works in bronze, porcelain, paper, oil, collage, glass, and other media by many of the gallery's most popular artists, including Britta Cruz, Don Dudenbostel, Mana Hewitt, Cynthia Tollefsrud, Aggie Zed, Steven Hewitt, Janet Kozachek, Sharon Burns Knutson, Susie Miller Simon, and Marcia Wegman.
The diversity of the pieces in Small Works reflects the variety that Nina Liu and Friends has featured in its exhibitions throughout the year. Gallery owner Nina Liu says that most of the exhibit's artists normally work in a large scale, but they have risen to the challenge of the exhibition's theme to produce quite a few surprises for their collectors. She further notes that the "small jewels" in the exhibition invite one's contemplation and, for that reason, are perfect for intimate spaces.
Small Works features pieces by Britta Cruz, whose figures in bronze or porcelain recall classical nudes; Don Dudenbostel, whose radiographs reveal the inner workings of flowers and toys; and Mana Hewitt, whose figurative oils include elaborate patterns. Cynthia Tollefsrud presents slyly whimsical oils while Aggie Zed includes metal and ceramic sculptures that combine humans and animals in interesting partnerships. Other gallery favorites whose work appears in the exhibit include Steven Hewitt, Janet Kozachek, Sharon Burns Knutson, Susie Miller Simon, and Marcia Wegman.
