Spencer Art Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Deborah Palmer
The Spencer Art Galleries in Charleston, SC, is pleased to present All About Town, an exhibition of new paintings exploring the urban landscape of Charleston by Deborah Palmer, on view from Dec. 16 - 23, 2006.
Finding a fresh perspective on familiar Charleston subjects is a tall order and Palmer takes it on in this show. You won't find scenes of Rainbow Row. The emphasis is on the light and shadows of early morning on subjects that include the ubiquitous pickup trucks, tourist and abundant street signs of downtown. "Texture plays a big part in the Charleston urban landscape. Rendering centuries-old brickwork and stucco in oil was a challenge, but one that I enjoyed," says Palmer of her work of the past year. The show captures the essence of the real Charleston in a neo-impressionistic style.
This special exhibition marks Palmer's second anniversary as a regular exhibitor at the Spencer Art Galleries. Since returning to her painting in 2000 after 30 years in the commercial art world, she has become an exhibiting member of the Charleston and Mt. Pleasant Artists Guilds, has won numerous awards in juried shows, and has had several pieces commissioned from patrons both in Charleston and the New York area. Palmer is a member of the Charleston Outdoor Painters Association (COPA) and often paints in "plein air". Her work has been exhibited at Guild Hall in Easthampton, NY, the Art Center in Pelham, NY, the Sandpiper Gallery on Sullivan's Island, SC, and at the North Charleston City Gallery. She is also represented by The Artist's Loft Gallery in Mt. Pleasant.
