Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

During August and September of 2001 Larry Elder was busy developing a business plan for a new venture which would become known as Elder Art Gallery in Charlotte, NC. This was the beginning of a life-long dream to become involved in the world of art.

During a vacation to Portugal in early September Elder and his wife, Janice, watched in disbelief at live footage of the attacks on the World Trade Center. "Once we were able to regain our composure it occurred to me that our world would never be the same again. I debated cancelling my plan but realized that I had already invested too much to retreat," says Elder. "Upon returning home I proceeded with my plan and opened for business in November."

The kick-off for the fifth anniversary celebration was recently held at the gallery with a customer appreciation cocktail party. "We wanted to honor customers and supporters who have helped in making us successful," says Elder. Approximately one hundred people attended the event, which featured live music, food and drink.

An added bonus was the display of numerous photographs of Elder Gallery's customers with paintings purchased from the gallery. "I've always been interested in seeing the type of art that people collect and thought that others would be intrigued as well," says Elder. "The photographs added another level of excitement to the event."

Elder Gallery has grown to represent over fifty American artists who produce a wide variety of work. In addition, the gallery is the exclusive representative for the Leon A. Makielski Collection and the Ernest Walker Collection of paintings, which were completed from 1903 through the 1950s.

The charter for Elder Gallery is to assist the beginner or experienced collector in the process of fine art selection. The gallery has recently expanded its offerings to include business consulting to other galleries in the formation and operation of art-related businesses.

Elder Gallery will be offering the exhibition, Young Russian Masters, on view from Dec. 1 - 30, 2006.
