December Issue 2006
Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Sherrie Wolf
Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is
presenting their second solo exhibition for Sherrie Wolf. The
exhibition, entitled, Flowers, will continue through Dec.
23, 2006.
Wolf best describes her imagery: "With one foot in the past
and another firmly in the present, I create a dramatic staged
setting for my still life images. Appropriating art-historical
references as windows to the past, I am paying visual homage to
great European and American painters who have lead me to where
I am today as a contemporary artist." All works included
in this exhibition are oil on canvas.
Wolf has been a recognized artist from the Pacific Northwest for the past 28 years. After completing her master of arts studies at Chelsea Collage of Art in London in 1975, she began a very active career as a painter and printmaker, exhibiting widely in galleries and museums. In the 1990's a painting by Wolf was used in the Absolute Vodka advertising campaign nationally, in USA Today and Time Magazine. Wolf has been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting television focusing on her unique imagery. She has received awards and fellowships from the Oregon Arts Commission and the Percent for Art Programs in both Oregon & Washington.
Hidell Brooks Gallery specializes in contemporary
art which includes paintings, prints and sculpture.
