Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Cindy Neuschwander and Raymond Chorneau
Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is presenting an exhibition featuring new paintings by Cindy Neuschwander and Raymond Chorneau. The exhibition will remain on view through Dec. 21, 2006.
Cindy Neuschwander presents new paintings that convey a layering process of building, removing and rebuilding the surface with wax. Her elegance of form is subtle yet bold. The artist's medium forces her to take risks in anticipating the end result.
Neuschwander started out in photography, earning her BFA in Photography at the University of Texas at Austin. She then earned her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her work is in the collections of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Chrysler Museum of Art, The Mint Museum of Art, and Neiman Marcus, among others. This is Neuschwander's first solo exhibition with Hodges Taylor Gallery. The artist lives and works in Richmond, VA.
Raymond Chorneau
Continuing his long interest in the human form,
Raymond Chorneau extrapolates the figure, often with a humorous
visual twist. Raised in California by parents who were artists,
Chorneau grew up in conversation with many of the well-known artists
in the Bay Area Figurative Painters. He absorbed a great
deal in that environment which feeds and informs his work today.
The new stylized paintings play on light and texture and engage
the viewer with simplistic themes of human nature.
Chorneau lived in New York and Chicago before settling back in
the North Carolina mountains. He has been represented by
Hodges Taylor Gallery for over ten years.
In business since 1981, Hodges Taylor Gallery represents contemporary artists of the southeast, including painters, printmakers, photographers and sculptors. The gallery offers a public venue in uptown Charlotte for viewing artwork and serves as art consultants for individual and corporate collectors.
