modern eye gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Mike Watson
In its farewell show, modern eye gallery in Charlotte, NC, proudly presents new work by Charlotte artist, Mike Watson. The show is entitled, All About Mike, featuring the full range of the artist's work from his abstract landscapes to his purely expressionistic abstractions. The show is comprised of original acrylics on canvas and will run through Dec. 9, 2006.
Born in Guam, Watson moved to Madrid, Spain at age 7, where he was influenced early on by the works of Goya and Picasso. Later while living in Omaha, NE, he studied fashion and textile design at the University of Nebraska under the tutelage of renowned fiber artist, Robert Hillestad. Watson's professional career in visual merchandising spanned several decades during which he won several national awards for his designs. Watson settled in Charlotte in 2000, where he now focuses on his art: creating paintings that meld together his past experiences with new inspirations, his wife, and his desire to explore internally so as to create externally.
Watson's utilization of color as a non-verbal communication vehicle is central to involving the viewer with his work. "Through color, the viewer can be drawn into a piece, experience various emotions, and walk away with meanings special to them as an individual," states Watson of his work. His goal is to alter the perception of the viewer so he can see the world in a different way and grow from the experience. Watson's work is influenced by his constant observation and exploration of form, line, and color in both nature and man-made objects.
In All About Mike, small and medium Fauve-like landscapes and abstract expressionist works are showcased. Watson will capture the viewer's heart through his richly textured and colorful canvases, both provoking humor and uncertainty in the viewer's interpretation.
modern eye gallery , in its final show in Charlotte, wants to leave this community on a special note through this very exciting artist's body of work. Come toast Watson on this wonderful collection of paintings and to say good-bye to modern eye gallery in Charlotte. The gallery will close its doors on Dec. 15, 2006.
