Blue Ridge Arts Council in Seneca, SC, Features Works by Monica Leaning and Judy Blanchard
The Blue Ridge Arts Council in Seneca, SC,
is presenting the exhibit, Tribute, featuring over 60 creations
by two very talented and versatile Oconee County artists, Monica
Leaning and Judy Blanchard. The exhibit will be on view through
Dec. 30, 2007, at the Blue Ridge Arts Center's gallery in Seneca,
SC.
Simply titled Tribute, the show is dedicated to the memory
of the artists' late friend, Lena Massara, who influenced and
inspired them both throughout many years of friendship. The e
xhibit includes a variety of distinctive two- and three-dimensional
works of art, many suitable for gift giving and collecting.
Monica Leaning's works include paintings of
various sizes - large and small - created with media including
watercolor, oils, and pastels, as well as mixed media. Her three-dimensional
works include unique creations of handmade books, as well as "altered
books" that are used as a means of self expression. In addition,
Leaning will be showing some of her exclusive jewelry designs
mainly of sterling silver and the new Argentium silver, with distinct
additions such as fossil, bone bead, enameled pieces, anodized
aluminum, gem stones, sea glass, and shell.
A retired art teacher and adjunct professor, Leaning, who received
her art education and degrees from Cleveland Institute of Art,
Bowling Green State University and Eastern Michigan University,
has been honored with several awards and acceptance of her works
in numerous exhibits plus purchased pieces now in a number of
private collections, businesses, schools, and city offices.
Judy Blanchard's works in the exhibit are clay and glass sculptures, which are generally large pieces very popular for home and garden décor. Originally motivated by her sculpture instructor at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Blanchard has developed her own distinguished line of decorative glazes for her work that is continually evolving into new, innovative shapes and styles.
A graduate of Lakeland Community College in Ohio, Blanchard received degrees in Fine Arts and Graphic Art, as well as studying Clay & Glaze Technology, Platemaking and Anagama Kiln Firing at Clemson University. She continues taking classes because she believes art is an ongoing education. In addition to many private collections, Blanchard's clay works can be seen on the grounds of The Club at Keowee Key, and have been accepted in numerous shows and exhibitions in several states.
