Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Exhibit by Dutch Artists

Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Contemporary Dutch Masters, including works by Simon Balyon, Hennie de Korte, Frits Goosen, Marianne Houtkamp, Rene Jansen, Niek van der Plas, and Frans van der Wal, will be on view from Dec. 7- 31, 2007.

Featuring a distinguished collection of oil paintings and bronze sculpture by Holland's most talented living master artists, this exhibit will showcase stunning representational painting techniques founded by Northern European artists nearly four centuries ago. Masterfully incorporating stylistic themes conceived by such artists as de Hooch, Rembrandt, and Vermeer during the Golden Age of Dutch Art, the exhibit will present the artists' newest evocations of the Dutch countryside and the quiet radiance of its many harbors and waterways.

Beloved for her talent in simultaneously capturing strength and tenderness in her works, internationally collected sculptress Marianne Houtkamp's embrace of the human spirit is soulfully crafted into each gesture and movement of her bronze figures. This exhibit presents a fantastic opportunity for collectors to acquire masterful Northern European paintings and sculpture in the European Academic tradition.

All of the artists shown during Contemporary Dutch Masters have distinguished resumes and backgrounds. Frits Goosen, known for his coastal and pastoral scenes, won the Award for Excellence from the International Maritime Art Exhibition in 1988, the Maritime Heritage Award in 2001, and was chosen as a member of the "Royal Society of Marine Artists" in 1990.

Like all of the Dutch artists represented by Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art, Rene Jansen is well respected throughout Europe and the United States. The Director of the Museum Mohlman at Venhuizen, The Netherlands, where Jansen's work is housed, notes Jansen as a "beast with paint, a luscious painter, a colorist, and an expressionist who manages to restrain himself. He is an artist who respects reality, but who not always follows reality literally."

Finally, world renowned sculptress Marianne Houtkamp's most recent achievements showcase her gifted talent in crafting three dimensional, full-figure portraits of women from Africa to South America to her home in Holland which evoke universal sentiments of beauty and vitality. Houtkamp's work is featured in the collection of Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of the United Nations, and one of her pieces was recently presented to Pope Benedict XVI by Jim Morris, the Director of the World Food Program. Morris presented the piece to the Pope in order to highlight the many men, women, and children of the world who are suffering from hunger. Victory, a classical rendering of a modern-day female athlete, was selected for display at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
