Furman University in Greenville, SC, Features Works by Steven Labadessa
Steven Labadessa: Composites, a collection of works by artist Steven Labadessa, will be on display through Dec. 14, 2007, in Furman University's Thompson Art Gallery, located in the Roe Art Building, in Greenville, SC.
Steven Labadessa: Composites is a collection of mixed media works including oil paint on copper, oil paint on birch, oil on canvas, pencils on paper and woodblock print. Labadessa's Composites is primarily of the female form, but with each figure's flesh re-rendered by compositing imagery from a variety of observed, imaginary, photographic and digital sources. The paintings, drawings, and prints consider the ways in which a person or persons can take on an iconic quality in memory, while also representing a more universal human experience.
The work on display features some of Labadessa's earliest work in graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania, post graduate work and his most recent work completed just before the show.
