Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse Gallery in Hickory, NC, Features Works by Derfla
Local artist, Derfla, currently has an exhibit of more than 50 paintings at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse Gallery located in downtown Hickory, NC. The exhibit covers a wide range of Derfla painting styles and will be on view through Jan. 28, 2008.
The exhibit includes portraits and abstract paintings. Some of the abstract paintings were created several years ago but have only recently become dry enough to exhibit. Others are from Derfla's metallic series in which he mixed oil paint with a metallic pigment to create a unique effect as the angles of light striking the canvas shift.
In the back hallway of the gallery is a selection of Derfla's earliest paintings. They were created during a focused time of experimentation and range from his early geometric paintings to paintings that are clear precursors to his current style.
Recently Derfla has begun to paint cityscapes and flowers. Some of these works are now available on a variety of gift items being sold at Taste Full Beans. These items include mugs, tiles, handbags, ornaments, and t-shirts.
Derfla has also recently changed his paintings at Michael's on 4th Bistro & Bar. The exhibit includes flowers and cityscapes along with animals and portraits. He continues his expansive exhibit at Hickory Fireplace and Patio in Viewmont, where nearly 100 painting are hanging throughout the showroom areas. He changes the paintings at all three locations regularly.
