Carolina Galleries in Charleston, SC, Feature Works by Mickey Williams and Margaret Peery

Carolina Galleries in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibit of works by new artists to the gallery, Mickey Williams and Margaret Peery, on view from Dec. 5 - 20, 2008.

Williams and Peery will be joining Carolina Galleries' strong tradition of art of the Charleston Renaissance and contemporary Southern artwork featuring artists such as John Andrew Burmeister, Stephen Chesley, Craig Crawford, Julyan Davis, Gary Grier, Johnson Hagood, Chestee Harrington, Alfred Hutty, Tom McNickle, Alice Ravenel Huger Smith, Elizabeth O'Neill Verner, Evan Wilson and Stephen Scott Young.

Mickey Williams grew up on Isle of Palms, a barrier island just north of downtown Charleston, where he fell in love with the pristine environment of his childhood. The landscapes of the Lowcountry continue to inspire his work as he explores the Ace Basin and undulating, ever changing surrounding barrier islands. The Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto rivers provide stunning natural beauty as they weave through the South Carolina Lowcountry that occupies the realm of Williams' compelling paintings. His oil paintings depict the landscape of the eye and heart - pristine landscapes with an emotional quality achieved through a lifetime spent in the Lowcountry.

Williams' work has won many acclamations and is highly collected, hanging in private and corporate collections all over the southeast. He was selected as the featured artist for the Lowcountry American Heart Association's 2008 Heart Ball. He lives with his beautiful wife and their three children in Mount Pleasant, SC, situated right between the city he loves and the island he grew up on.

Originally from North Carolina, Margaret Peery has made Charleston her home for many decades. Peery began painting in 1981 inspired by the beauty of the Lowcountry. Through her study with many of the talented artists of the area, she developed her own style involving layering washes and is exceptionally known for her watercolors. "Midge", as she's known around town, loves color and enjoys painting atmosphere; she is currently working on a series of watercolors featuring Charleston's chimneys and rooftops.

Peery is a signature member of the Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Southern Watercolor Societies. In 2002, one of her paintings was accepted in the Allied Artists of America 89th Juried Exhibition at the National Arts Club in New York. Her work can be found in the collections of Bank of America, Carolina First, Federal Reserve Bank, Roper Hospital, the Gibbes Museum of Art and many private collections.
