Silver Fox Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Works by Ceramic Artists

Silver Fox Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Dwellings, featuring introspective work by three ceramic artists, Holden McCurry, Virginia McKinney, and Susan Elena Esquivel opens, on view through Jan. 10, 2009.

Asheville, NC, artist Holden McCurry returns to this holiday show with his hand-built clay prayer towers, friendship houses and journey boats. In his prayer towers and shrines, for which he is best known, McCurry places a fold of paper on which recipients can write their prayer or message, giving each tower a special purpose.

Tennessee artist Virginia McKinney brings her ceramic abstract abodes, many of which are set on hand forged iron stilts, reminding viewers of the sometimes quirky, sometimes precarious and always serendipitous nature of our lives. McKinney also hand builds the abodes from clay and forges the iron bases herself.

Boston-area artist Susan Elena Esquivel creates a form reminiscent of a cocoon, a nurturing space with an open door that lets the world in and a ladder, which represents the life-long journey back to the place of safety and comfort of our true self.

"During the holiday season, we want to offer our customers meaningful gifts that facilitate gratitude and peace," said gallery owner Bonnie Rash. "The work of these talented artists achieves those goals."

The Silver Fox Gallery offers American art and craft in addition to furniture and lighting in its 7,000-square-foot showroom.
