Vadim Bora Gallery & Studio in
Asheville, NC, Offers Portrait Exhibit
Vadim Bora Gallery & Studio in Asheville, NC, will present the exhibit, Faces You Might Know - Celebrating the Freedom of the Portrait Genre with Vadim Bora, featuring close to 200 stunning portraits in oil, charcoal, pen and ink, bronze and terra cotta, on view from Dec. 1 - 14, 2008.
Everything that could be considered a portrait - from the few whispering lines of a simple sketch to an elegant drawing, humorous caricature, bitter satire to luscious oils and heavy sculpture - is presented in one show.
Above all, within each portrait, no matter what style the multi-stylistic Bora employs, the artist conveys the true sense of a person. The spirit of portraiture since its inception has been about the immediate contact between an artist and his model. Or sometimes between and artist and a character created wholly by the artist.
"True freedom is capturing what that person gives you in a subconscious way to materialize his or her spirit on the flat surface," says sculptor and painter Bora.
They are bold, moody, sensual, abstract, expressionistic, realistic, impressionistic each according to the impression the subject makes on the artist at a given time. It is the essence of the model that Bora captures and reflects back on canvas through the prism of his own interpretation.
"Just like an actor, I consciously fight being a slave to a particular style, always leaving myself room to play an unrecognizable role," says Bora.
"That is the final and finest calling of the creator in the artist this freedom."
