February Issue 2000
Micro Cosm Gallery Features Works by Jessica Deltac
Jessica Deltac, renowned artist and poet from Charlotte, NC, will be the featured artist at Micro Cosm Gallery, in the Cosmos Café behind Mythos. The exhibit will be on view through Feb. 28.
In the exhibit entitled, Totemic Discovery, Deltac's most recent works of art explore the concept of animal totems as found in Shamanistic cultures like those of Native Americans, Aztecs, Japanese and Tibetans. Her personal studies and recent travels including Eastern Europe and Indian Reservations in New Mexico have strongly influenced this new body of work. These recent works hold true to the sultry and soulful figurative work of her past but are heightened by the introduction of strong animal totems. Reminiscent of artists like Susan Seddon-Boulet, Deltac's art has a "grown-up" spiritual quality, and yet still holds onto a childlike gaiety.
The colors range from cool to vibrant, the subject matter is provocative, but it is the level of mastery of numerous modalities of art mediums that seems to be the most impressive: watercolors, oils, acrylics, mixed media, and sculpture. Numerous pieces are linked together with her written word, which emblazons the totemic connection. Critics have spoken in awe of the intense impact of her published poetry for a woman merely in her twenties.
Her books are carried in Charlotte at Borders Books, Music & Cafe, Little Professor Book Center, Newsstand International, as well as in the local galleries that carry her art: Gallery 277 in the Historic North Davidson Arts District, Beginnings at Himal Home & Art Gallery, Witzen's Gallery and Studios, Studio PI, and House of Africa In Plaza Midwood.
As an entrepreneur, marketing consultant, artist, poet, author and more - Deltac bridges a gap to further understand the idea of the "empowered woman." This is not a feminist paradigm, but a person proud of her own strengths, aware of her ability to amplify others' passions and committed to evolving spiritually.
Deltac headed the marketing team at Metasys Inc (presently Optum, Inc.) from 1995-1997, has been the Director of Marketing for non-profit as well as marketing organizations around Charlotte. She is the author of two books and is presently writing her first spiritual-adventure novel on the plight of the Dalai Lama and Tibetan Buddhists.
