Works by Sarah J. Williams at Semans Gallery in Durham, NC
Quilted Visions is the title of an exhibit by Carrboro textile artist, Sarah J. Williams that will hang in the Semans Gallery of the Durham Arts Council Building, in Durham, NC, through Mar. 6.
Williams is a textile artist whose art quilts incorporate several techniques. Her intricate stitching over brightly colored fabrics model the natural environment from which she finds much of her inspiration. Her use of commercial and hand dyed fabrics blend superbly to create an insight to her world.
Encouraged by many in her life to follow her interest in art, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Textile Design from the University of Kansas in 1977. Quilting has been a part of her life since her first class in 1977 in Lawrence, KS. She finds her home now in Carrboro after living all over the US and Australia.
Williams is a member of the Studio Art Quilt Association, American Quilt Society and the Durham Orange Quilters Guild. Along with her show at the Durham Arts Council's Semans Gallery, she will also be exhibiting works at the Horace Williams House and Chapel Hill Town Hall in Chapel Hill, NC, during the year 2000.
