New Gallery Complex to Open in Myrtle Beach, SC, in March
A new six-gallery art complex, opening Mar. 9, will introduce works by more than a hundred artists to Myrtle Beach, SC, art lovers. Art Galleries Plus, Inc. is an unusual and unpretentious complex of galleries offering a tempting spectrum of visual arts by artists near and far. The gallery will be located at 1518 Gumm Plaza on Hwy 501 in Myrtle Beach, just one-half mile east of Hwy. 17 Bypass.
Original works by artists from nearby North and South Carolina will fill two galleries. These works will include framed paintings in most mediums and styles, as well as etched glass, sculptures, woodcarvings, and an unusual collection of pottery and ceramics.
The largest gallery contains more than a hundred traditional fine oil paintings, several oversized, most ornately framed. It also includes mirrors in antique-reproduction frames, cast marble friezes, and tapestries in various subjects and sizes. Another gallery features an eclectic collection of stained glass, sculptures, wood art, pottery, and painted tiles.
Perhaps the complex's most unexpected gallery is the one featuring paintings by Asians, most of whom live in the Pacific Northwest, but paint in traditional Chinese and Korean styles. This gallery also offers woodcarvings, cast figures, and hand-made Chinese rugs. Its most unusual works probably are those by a Chinese-Canadian artist who creates miniature traditional Chinese paintings on stones.
The sixth gallery, represented by the word "Plus" in the gallery's name, features hundreds of cast gothic architectural and accent pieces such as statues, plaques, Grecian wall friezes, over-the-door architectural accent pieces - even gargoyles.
The gallery will be open Tue. through Sat.,
from 10am to 5pm, and Sun. from 1 to 5pm. For further information
