Private Art Academy Moves to Tryon, NC, from Atlanta, GA

Artist Kipp McIntyre and the Board of Advisors of the McIntyre Academy School of American Art announced plans to relocate the McIntyre Academy School of American Art from Decatur, GA, to the newly established Tryon Research Station for Advanced Abstract Studies in Tryon, NC.

McIntyre informally announced the news at a luncheon held in Atlanta, GA, for Friends of the Academy. "This is a bold move for us as we relocate to an area rich in art historical provenance" said McIntyre. "We are excited about the Tryon Research Station for Advanced Abstract Studies and look forward to the inner-connective nature of our two missions."

The Tryon Research Station for Advanced Abstract Studies exists to collect, examine, and catalogue exemplary abstract works by living contemporaries from all fields, and the McIntyre Academy School of American Art actively sponsors individual critiques, workshop seminars, and formal lectures into the nature of abstract art and abstract art making.

Tryon, long noted for its beauty and tranquillity is situated in the foothills of western North Carolina and was home to nineteenth century poet Sidney Lanier, New York stage actor William Gillette, and twentieth century painter Homer Ellertson.

The move is expected in May of this year and McIntyre anticipates announcing through Xatumy, the quarterly newsletter of the Tryon Research Station for Advance Abstract Studies, that the McIntyre Academy will begin sessions by mid-Summer.

McIntyre founded the McIntyre Academy School of American Art in 1999. Based on the philosophy of the "one-room" schoolhouse, the Academy introduces its members to the fundamentals of equational drawing and encourages active participation in national and international art affairs.

"I am very excited about the prospect of bringing representatives from the national arena to view the Academy and the Research Station once we have settled in Tryon," said McIntyre adding, "the vistas are extraordinary."
