Genevieve Cotter: recent paintings at Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC
Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, announces a one-person feature exhibit for artist Genevieve Cotter on view through Mar. 16. A NC resident, Genevieve Cotter will exhibit a new group of paintings on paper and canvas in her fourth one-person exhibit at Somerhill Gallery.
Drawing on her day-to-day surroundings, her strong interests in the patterns of nature and the artwork of the Old Masters, Genevieve Cotter has created in her new group of works both abstract and abstracted realist paintings in both oil and acrylic. A rich, brilliant palette applied in energetic painterly strokes imbues each of her works with a vigorous, creative, and purposively complex glazed surfaces unique to her paintings.
A NC resident, Genevieve Cotter has been honored with numerous awards. She is a recipient of a Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant, Merit Awards in the 37th and 36th Annual Durham, NC Art Guild Juried Exhibits, and earned the Solo Show Award at the Durham Art Guild in 1991. Genevieve Cotter has exhibited widely throughout NC. Included are several Durham Art Guild Juried Exhibits, a one-person exhibit at Duke University, Glaxo traveling exhibits in 1991 and 1992, and two exhibits at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
