Tippy Stern Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Recent Paintings by Inez Storer
California artist Inez Storer will be featured in a solo exhibition of recent paintings, Feb. 10 through Mar. 2, at the Tippy Stern Fine Art, LLC Gallery in Charleston, SC.
Born in Santa Monica, CA, Storer received her Masters from Cal. State University in San Francisco. From 1992 - 1999, she received grants from such notable institutions as the American Academy in Rome, the San Francisco Art Institute (faculty grant), and in 1999 received the Fresno Art Museum's council of 100 "Distinguished Women" Artist award.
Storer describes her work as usually having
an aspect of implied history, both through the use of the figure
as well as objects that are part of her home collections. She
begins her process by making the surface of the painting, adding
more and more, then peeling away the surface to the first marks.
"It seems a metaphor of one's own life, as the future becomes
enmeshed with the past."
Storer further states that she enters her studio with an agenda,
but something happens, and she lets the painting take her on its
own journey.
The widely exhibited and collected artist will be lecturing at the College of Charleston's Halsey Gallery, Thur., Feb. 8 at 4pm. Storer will also give a gallery discussion at the Tippy Stern Fine Art on Sat., Feb. 10 at 1pm. Call the Gallery for reservations, space is limited.
"We are excited to have Storer's work and her in Charleston," said gallery president and director, Tippy Stern Brickman. "Her paintings are fresh, energetically playful and vibrant."
