Green Hill Center for NC Art in Greensboro, NC, Offers Photography Exhibits
The Green Hill Center
for NC Art in Greensboro, NC, is presenting the exhibitions, Merry
Moor Winnett Photography Triennial and Old is New Again:
Alternative Processes in Photography, which will be on view
through June 6, 2004.
The Green Hill Center organizes an exhibition of NC's finest photographers
every three years honoring the late Greensboro photographer Merry
Moor Winnett. This year's exhibition, in memory of Merry Moor
Winnett and A. Doren, features approximately 100 works by thirty-three
North Carolina photographers selected from a statewide call for
slides.
Moor Winnett was a photography
instructor at Guilford College in Greensboro, and the Sawtooth
Center in Winston Salem, NC. She was a nationally exhibited artist
and beloved member of the community. Her work has recently become
part of the Smithsonian Collection.
A. Doren, Associate Professor Emeritus, taught photography at
UNC-Greensboro from 1978 until his retirement in 2002. A poet
and photographer, he exhibitied nationally and internationally
for 45 years.
In the exhibition, Old is New Again: Alternative Processes in Photography, eight North Carolina photographers created fascinating images combining alternative with various 19th century methods using albumen, cyanotype, platinum, tintype, gum bichromate, hand-tinting, and pinhole. Participating artists include: Diana Hooper Bloomfield, Tom Braswell, Amelia V. Burch, Alan Dehmer, David Hyman, Bruce Melkowits, Diana Parrish, and John Scarlata. The exhibition was coordinated by Diana Bloomfield.
