Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, Features Works for Robert Jackson and John Page
The Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, is presenting a two-person exhibit for painters Robert Jackson and John Page. Realist still life paintings by artist Robert Jackson and abstract painting on ceramic by artist John Page will be featured in the South Gallery through Feb. 25, 2005.

Jackson
Jackson explores life's drama using inanimate objects as his actors. By using these anthropomorphic objects he allows the viewer to objectively examine the human narrative. Using color, precise placement and unusual shapes, Jackson's still life compositions encourage the viewer to carefully study each aspect of all his paintings. Delicate, meticulous brushwork results in realism attainable only by a handful of contemporary painters.
John
Page
Through his abstract ceramic paintings, John Page combines his love for both painting and pottery in his first Somerhill Gallery exhibition. Like the highly refined yet serendipitous hand of a Zen master, Page lays down dark calligraphic brush strokes over luminous fields of color. This unique style lends itself to a captivating array of atmospheric abstract landscapes.
Robert Jackson is a native of Kinston, NC, and currently resides in Pennsylvania. Jackson's paintings have been featured in numerous one-person and group exhibits throughout the US. These include: Allied Artists Invitational Traveling Exhibition; Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, DE; US Artists 2001, Philadelphia, PA; Allied Artists at the Butler, Butler Art Institute, Youngstown, OH; and the 19th Annual Salmagundi Club Exhibit, New York, NY.
Armed with a BFA in painting, drawing and ceramics from East Carolina School of Art in NC and MFA work at Virginia Commonwealth University, John Page switched coasts and settled in Seattle. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the country. Page's work is included in a number of high profile private collections. He has taught at Duke University, the Durham Arts Council and Pottery Northwest in Seattle, WA. Many will remember Page's work from his years in Durham where his studio gallery was open to the public across from the Lakewood Shopping Center.
Gallery director Joseph Rowand recently commented, "It is a pleasure to get these two North Carolina born artists back to their home state after they have been establishing revered careers in other parts of the country."
