Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, Offers Several Exhibitions in February
The Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, is offering the following exhibitions including: Artists Among Us, featuring works by High Point area artists, in the Main Gallery; Ambiguities, featuring an installation of paper collages by Anne Kesler Shields in Gallery B; and Young Artists Among Us, featuring works by a select group of talented area youth in the Kaleldoscope Youth Gallery - all on view through Feb. 19, 2005. An exhibition by members of the High Point Central Photography Club will also be on view from Feb. 1 - 19, 2005, in the Hallway Gallery.
Artists Among Us is an exhibition of paintings by little-known High Point artists. These artists are our neighbors and friends, and most people don't even realize they are fine artists. They include: Dr. Hal Ingram, Dr. David Moore, Donna Moose, Robin Rowe, Sue Seamon, Gary Simon, and Amy Jo Wood. Painting styles range from impressionistic to abstract.

Kesler Shields
Anne Kesler Shields of Winston-Salem, NC, is
exhibiting, Ambiguities, a series of paper collages using
popular reproduced images, both contemporary and historical. Much
of her work comments on the social and political climate of the
times.
"I attempt to organize and make some sense of the visual
clutter with which the world bombards us," says Shields.
" Comparing contemporary pictures with images from art history
tells us that human nature changes little through the ages".
Shields is also a well-known portrait artist. She earned her BA from Hollins College in Roanoke, VA, in 1954 and her MFA from UNC-Greensboro a few years later. Her work has been widely exhibited and is in the collections of the NC Museum of Art, Mint Museum, Wake Forest University, Cornell University and Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum, (formerly St. John's Museum of Art) Wilmington, NC.
The exhibit, Young Artists Among Us,
features works by talented young artists from throughout the Triad
area. This group is the first in this annual exhibition organized
to focus on young artists.
The exhibit includes the works of: Annabel Cannoy, age 7, from
Hopewell Elementary School, Trinity, NC; Hannah Council, age 7,
from Westchester Academy, High Point; Virginia Cheek, age 10,
from Wesleyan Academy, High Point; Jay Spangler, age 9, from Fair
Grove Elementary, Thomasville, NC; Ateh Ndingwan, age 15, from
Southern Guilford High School, Greensboro, NC; Timmy Rosenberg,
age 13, from Ferndale Middle School, High Point; Henrike Winnen,
age 16, from Glenn High School, Winston-Salem; and Chantelle Thurston,
age 17, from Southern Guilford High School, Greensboro.
