Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Marybeth Blackwell-Chapman and Kimberly Varnadoe

Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, is presenting a two-person exhibit entitled, Books and Boxes, featuring a show of artists' books and mixed media works in boxes by Marybeth Blackwell-Chapman and Kimberly Varnadoe, on view from Feb. 1 - 25, 2006.

Recent world disasters involving water and its power, destructive and otherwise, particularly Hurricane Katrina, are a recurring theme in the show. Place and the importance of the Land is referred to in the show. One of Varnadoe's wall pieces will be a Katrina commemorative piece. The show also raises the question "what is a book?" and poses a variety of answers to this query. Viewers will be stimulated with a variety of book forms, serious and playful, complex and simple. Prepare to be stimulated and presented with new ideas about art and contemporary life!

Marybeth Blackwell-Chapman received her BA in English Lit. at Goucher College, and her MA in Motion Pictures at Northwestern Univ. Her work is in collections in VA, W. VA, Wash. DC, NC, GA, and France.

Kimberly Varnadoe has a MFA and is Associate Professor of Art at Salem College. She specializes in painting, printmaking, photography,and book arts.
