February Issue 2006
Charleston Art & Portraits in Charleston, SC, Features Group Show with Wildlife Focus
Charleston Art &
Portraits in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Fins,
Fur & Feathers, featuring a group show of works with a
wildlife focus, from Feb. 15 through Mar. 15, 2006. The exhibit
includes works by Beverly M. Brunswig, Anita Meistrell Putman,
Kelly Green, T.M. Tremaine, Don Boyd and Sandra J. Booker.
The detailed paper sculptures of Beverly M. Brunswig require a
precision that most artists lack. Constructed within shadow
boxes, depicting scenes from nature, from upland birds to inhabitants
of the marsh, "Beverly's museum quality sculptures are unique
and unequalled in Charleston," says Cecile Langham Cothran
of Charleston Art & Portraits. "We will have an
unusual amount of original wildlife art and especially excellent
dog art during the expo this year."
Anita Meistrell Putman,
new to the gallery, will be showing her remarkable color pencil
renderings of popular dog breeds as well as wildlife. She
has participated in juried shows, notably a national show sponsored
by Purina and the kennel clubs of Wichita, Hutchinson and Salina,
Kansas. "Her work is breathtaking in it's realism,"
says Cothran, "and I am thrilled to have her joining my list
of portrait artists. Obviously, she will be specializing
in dogs, as well as cats."
The show will also include photographic works of wildlife by Kelly
Green and T.M. Tremaine and oil paintings by Don Boyd and Sandra
J. Booker.
Highlighting the wildlife art in the gallery during the Southeastern
Wildlife Exposition has become a tradition in the gallery, says
owner Cecile Langham Cothran, whose husband Sam was extremely
involved in the expo in it's early years through Duck's Unlimited. "Sam's
work for Ducks Unlimited, on the state and national levels, has
put me in close contact with lots of wildlife art for a number
of years," says Cothran. Beverly Brunswig's husband,
Norman, is director of Audabon for the state of South Carolina.
"Between Sam and Norm," Cothran smiles, "we're
under pretty watchful eyes here when we present wildlife art."
