City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Calvin Dilligard, Mark Blackmon, and Rodney Jackson

The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Fusion of the Arts, featuring works by Calvin Dilligard, Mark Blackmon, and Rodney Jackson, on view from Feb. 8 through Mar. 7, 2006.

Calvin Dilligard was born in 1981 in Charleston. He started drawing at a young age at Memminger Elementary School. While attending Burke High School Dilligard received a scholarship to learn new art forms such as etching, watercolor, photography and acrylic paintings at the Gibbes Museum of Art. After graduating from high school, Dilligard furthered his studies in Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Charlotte, Charlotte, NC.

Mark Blackmon was born in Charleston. He had shown an aptitude for the arts from a very young age. Blackmon attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, where he received a BFA with a specialization in Visual Communication in 2003. Since his graduation he has returned to Charleston and established 81Art.com, a freelance graphic design studio.

Rodney Jackson was born in 1965 in North Charleston, SC. He began practicing his art while attending Chicora Elementary School and through his years at Stall High School. Jackson was an underground artist from 38 years. Guided by his spiritual intervention, Samuel Prayed was Jackson's first piece. The majority of his work is a combination of oils and acrylics. Jackson's signature style is similar to Christian/Ethiopian influences.

The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre, established by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in 1978, is located in the historic Dock Street Theatre. The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre's mission is to exhibit the work of visual artists from the tri-county area, especially those engaged in serious contemporary and experimental work.

Annual selections for the City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre exhibits are made in November each year. Artists interested in applying to the 2007 City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre should contact the Office of Cultural Affairs no later than Oct. 31, 2006 by calling 843/724-7305.
