Cobblestone Quilter's Guild in Charleston, SC, Offers Annual Show
Charleston's Cobblestone Quilter's Guild, with a membership of 250 quilters, will present A Celebration of Quilts at the Gaillard Auditorium in Charleston, SC, on Mar. 4 and 5, 2006. On display will be over 300 quilts. There will be original design art quilts, quilts using innovative variations of existing patterns, old fashion quilts and wearable quilted items.
The donation quilt, Low Country Impressions, an original design, will be a featured attraction. An exquisitely rendered Palmetto Palm, surrounded by stylized maritime rope and yellow Jesamine vine, grace the center of the quilt. Egrets, dragonflies, magnolias and a Loggerhead turtle are incorporated into a border which also has a version of the South Carolina Star. The upright pickets on the outer border represent the fences of the lovely and often secluded Charleston gardens. Someone will be awarded this quilt at the show on Mar. 5, 2006.
Many small quilted items will be sold at the Quilters Boutique. Throughout each day, there will be demonstrations and Antique Quilt Turning. Eighteen vendors will be present to display items to appeal to all artists.
A silent auction featuring quilts, table runners, baby quilts, wall art, quilted purses and many other things, will be held on both days. Funds raised in this auction benefit "Seniors and Songbirds", a chapter of the Audubon Society, which presents free programs about low country birds to senior centers around the Charleston area. They also use their funds for materials for Boy Scouts to build bird feeders for nursing homes.
Mary Stori, a nationally known quilter and teacher of beaded quilt embellishment, will be giving classes during the mornings of the show. She will be present at the show to demonstrate her beading techniques and to sign her book publications.
Show hours are 10am-5pm each day and admission is $5.
