February Issue 2006
Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Tom Berg and Wade Hoefer
Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce their second solo exhibit for both Tom Berg and Wade Hoefer. The exhibits will be on view through Feb. 25, 2006.
Tom Berg
For the past 25 years,
Tom Berg's paintings of chairs have gone through cycles where
the emphasis has shifted among elements of formality and structure,
texture, context, geometry and symmetry and indoor and outdoor
settings. There have been single chairs, groupings, chairs next
to swimming pools, chairs on fire, chairs that convey a sense
of quiet relaxation and others edgy with mystery and the unknown.
In the past few years Berg has begun to paint other subject matter
including hand tools he uses in his work everyday and still lifes
of vegetables sometimes in bottles or cans. Whatever his subject
matter Berg accomplishes to create a painting that exposes the
beauty of any object through his use of color, brushstroke and
light.
Wade Hoefer
Wade Hoefer's new work continues to explore his signature landscapes inspired by the scenery of Northern California. Using a limited palette of ochers, umbers and sepias, he creates fluvial images that recall the meandering banks of the Russian River and the solitary meadows that dot the coastal valleys. The peripheral, ghostlike landscape represents a sense of memory, something faded and scraped away. The central image is more immediate; its resuscitation, a rebirth of the ephemeral scene. The border is like an open window to see an inner light.
